Benefits of Black Pepper

The many benefits of black pepper

Black pepper has more healthy properties than most people know about.  Black pepper isn't like salt that can make food less healthy if too much is added. Black pepper is a spice that has the potential to make food more beneficial when used in various recipes and as a table spice.

The History of Black Pepper

As far back as the ancient eras, the spice we know as black pepper actually had monetary value.  It was used in the market place and in other places in place of money.  It was used to appease ancient gods in the temples.  Even now, black pepper is a commonly used spice.  Fortunately for us, it is always in great supply and it costs very little.

We get our black pepper from the pepper vine that can grow at least thirty feet tall in the stifling climates of the tropical parts of the world.  The pepper vines actually bear fruit—small white flowers that turn into berries called peppercorns.  Manufacturers take the peppercorns and collect them as whole berries or as ground black pepper.

The medicinal benefits of black pepper reach beyond its taste and flavoring of your foods.  Research studies have shown that black pepper actually has healthful properties.  Of all of the benefits of this spice, it is its ability to enhance the function of the digestive tract that makes it a good reason to put it in the dishes you cook.

Another benefit of black pepper is its ability to diminish the amount of gas in the intestinal tract.  This leads to less flatulence and bloating and is believed to be another benefit of increasing hydrochloric acid in the stomach.

For those who understand the benefits of antioxidants, you'll be glad to learn that black pepper is known to have a great amount of antioxidant properties.  It also has benefits against bacterial growth, particularly in the intestinal tract.  The good news is that all you need to do is put a little bit in your food every day.

Black Pepper in Cooking

How do you like your pepper? If you're a professional cook or just someone who likes the best in cuisine, you probably grind your peppercorns in a peppercorn mill.  You can get fresh peppercorns at the grocery store, on the internet and at organic food stores.  When you grind your own pepper, you enhance the freshness of the pepper and probably get a better health benefit from it.  In addition, the outer skin of the peppercorn most likely enhances metabolism, leading to a higher probability of weight loss.

If you're the type of person who just wants to shake their pepper on, do yourself a favor and purchase the best brand of pepper you can buy.  The supermarket shelves are full of ground pepper and going with the cheapest brand probably won't give you a quality product.  You don't need to buy gourmet pepper but buying a brand name will go a long way toward giving you a quality product.

Becarefull : Determine Wheter You Are Anemia Or Low Blood

low blood 300x300 Differences Between Anemia With Low BloodMost people usually think of anemia and low blood pressure (hypotension) is the same condition. Despite similar symptoms, but two conditions are actually different.
One of the misconceptions that people believed was someone who had hypotension must have thought he was anemic, too. In fact these two conditions are not always interrelated.
Anemia and hypotension have different definitions, making it the second disease is not diagnosed in one. This difference in anemia and hypotension.
Anemia
Anemia is a condition where a person does not have a healthy red blood cells to carry enough oxygen demand in each tissue and organs, this condition usually starts with a sense of fatigue. Due to the volume of blood is less able to cause health problems due to red blood cells contain hemoglobin which carries oxygen to body tissues.
If these conditions are not handled properly, it can cause complication including fatigue and stress on body organs are not getting oxygen and nutrients.
The symptoms usually varies, usually include fatigue, pale, rapid heartbeat and irregular, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, cognitive disturbances, cold hands and feet and headaches. Originally anemia is so mild and go unnoticed, but over time the symptoms will increase and exacerbate the condition.
Hypotension (low blood pressure)
Normal blood pressure is if you have a systolic (the upper limit when the heart is working) 120 mmHg and diastolic (the lower limit when the heart breaks) 80 mmHg or often referred to 120/80 mmHg.
Well people said to suffer from low blood pressure if systolic pressure (top number in blood pressure readings) is less than 90 mm Hg or the diastolic pressure (bottom number in blood pressure readings) is less than 60 mmHg.
Causes of low blood pressure can be due to dehydration to disturbances in the brain signals that regulate the blood pumping. Low blood pressure can cause symptoms of dizziness to fainting that trigger heart damage, endocrine or neurological disorders.
The symptoms of hypotension is the body to feel dizzy even to feel like fainting, lack of concentration, blurred vision, nausea, body feels cold, pale skin, shortness of breath and fast, fatigue, depression and the emergence of thirst.
Still can sometimes hypotension associated with anemia, such as a person who suffered malnutrition such as vitamin B12 and folic acid can trigger anemia. If there is anemia, the body can not produce enough red blood cells that cause blood pressure to be low or declining.
So it can not be distinguished. Anemia associated with the amount or volume of blood in the body is lacking. While low blood pressure is the force in suppressing blood vessel wall.

Don’t let your Girlfriend Away

Oh Boy... Don’t let your Girlfriend Away

Do you always worry of loosing your girlfriend you loved? Don’t let it happen to you. You have to looking for what your girl need and dislike to keep her side on you. Girl is mysterious, that what the lover expert said. But if you do the things she likes you will have her forever.

1. Avoid becoming obsessed. No one likes a stalker. This does not mean not to hang around with her or go places with her a lot. It just means that if it's quite obvious she doesn't want to hang around you, or if she is doing something private (such as a get-together with close friends), then give her some space.

2. Do not hit on people continuously, especially not in front of your girl. She could get the feeling that you don't like her. If you hit on her, make sure you don't do it all the time.

3. Make sure you smell good -- hygiene is important. No one is going to want to hang around with someone who smells bad.

4. Look good. She won't like it if you wear the same thing all the time. Just try to switch it up. You don't constantly have to change outfits. You might even want to joke about how to always wear the same clothes.

5. Be nice to her friends. Don't give the impression you are interested in them beyond friendship. This is a big one. If you become friends with her friends, she will love you for it.

6. Don't try and force anything on her. If you come out straight away and tell her you are interested in her in "that" way, she may become uncomfortable around you. Keep in mind, some people would prefer you to tell them straight up.

7. Don't come on too strong at first. Be casual and cool. You'll know if she wants you to come on stronger. If she is coming on stronger than you are, that generally means you can step it up.

8. Do not say that you are going to kill yourself if she gets mad at you, that may make her think that you are slightly obsessive, and have nothing better to live for than her.

9. Don't try to rush her into anything, you'll only push her away.

10. Don't talk to your friends about other girls. They might tell your girlfriend and she will want to ignore you.

Health - Carbonated Drinks Can Damage Our Health

Last week I wrote a health article on how chemicals we use everyday around our homes and offices can be detrimental to our health, and very damaging to unborn and young children.

This week there has been even more worrying health information given about the additive E211 in soft drinks, especially at this time of the year when some children drink vast quantities. Parents have been warned that they should limit the consumption of their children's soft drinks due to health fears over the safety of a commonly used preservative E211, as laboratory tests have shown that it can switch off vital parts of DNA, causing serious damage to cells. Concern is also given to the fact that tests suggest this could also result in other degenerative diseases such as cirrhosis of the liver and Parkinson's disease.

E211 is found in many soft drinks including Fanta and Pepsi Max and many other brands of highly consumed carbonated drinks. Peter Piper, a molecular biologist expert carried out the research into sodium benzoate or E211 at Sheffield University, where he found that it could damage the mitochrondia, an important area in DNA. However the Food Standards Agency and drink manufacturers insist that rigorous assessments are made before the approval and use of any of their additives, and it is deemed safe to health in the UK, EU and US for food use. The FSA says that consumers can continue to enjoy soft drinks knowing they are safe.

However, Peter Piper said that "these chemicals have the ability to cause severe damage to DNA in the mitochrondia to the point that they totally inactivate it, they knock it out altogether". The mitochrondia consumes oxygen which gives you energy, if this becomes damaged the cell starts to malfunction seriously. With this there is a whole range of diseases effecting your health now being linked - through damage to DNA, Parkinson's foremost, but also several other neuro-degenerative diseases and of course the whole general health process of ageing.

Sodium benzoate is regularly used to kill bacteria, yeast and fungi in soft drinks, fruit juices, jams and spreads, and salad dressings, as well as many other products. But it is in the soft drinks, which are consumed in higher quantities, and been used for decades by the carbonated drinks industry that is causing concern. Peter piper acknowledges the fact that sodium benzoate had passed the UK, European Union and US food safety tests, but claims that these tests were too old to be reliable, and that by the criteria of modern safety testing are inadequate for our health

Safety testing in other areas has moved forward in the past 50 years with new research, and so rigorous new tests should be conducted on E211 and other additives. Sodium benzoate is found naturally in some fruit such as apples, cranberries, prunes, greengages and also cinnamon and cloves and as you know these are good for your health. When sodium benzoate is mixed with vitamin C it forms a carcinogenic substance called benzene.

I believe that we should not stop drinking carbonated drinks altogether, but the consumption should be limited, and maybe production of carbonated drinks with a shorter shelf life, needing less additives would be a good step for manufacturers to take. This would probably bring the price of carbonated drinks more into line with healthier alternatives available, as at the moment they are the cheapest option in most supermarkets.

Hope you find this interesting, as I do not believe any of us are aware just how many different chemicals we consume regularly and the effect they have on our health, especially children.

Health - The Most Precious Thing For Us

World Health Organization issued a formal definition of health, it is thus formulated: "Health is that state of complete well physically, mentally and socially and is not only absence of disease or infirmity." Health is so much more than the absence of disease, physical abnormality and has a much broader sense, multidimensional, on several levels: physically, mentally and socially. It is therefore of a higher concept, a wide horizon, which cannot be separated from the social environment, the socio-economic conditions in which people live and work.

Only society where everything is dedicated to human welfare can provide optimal conditions for the protection and health promotion.

Health should be conceived as an important factor in determining the complex concept that you call "quality of life."

On the biological health is based on a balance of all body functions, body fluid and chemical composition of human body tissue. This wonderful balance is constantly maintained and controlled by a complex mechanism in entering many factors: chemical, physical, mental, social.

In a beautiful speech, a great endocrinologist revealed for harmony in a healthy body: "Health is the harmony of functions, as beauty is the harmony of body shapes, as is the harmony of true goodness and true wisdom is ethical feelings intellectual harmony."

We must admit however that between health and sickness, the border is sometimes difficult to determine, among them there are transition states or limit (borderline) that can turn imperceptibly in a state of disease.

A concern of modern medicine, preventive, early detection is precisely through the most sensitive methods, these states of transition, of morbid states in their biochemical status before reaching the clinical disease.

On the bio-medical, made extraordinary progress in recent decades have allowed a more thorough exploitation of health. Investigation now has more options and more precise fine, which exceeds the common appreciation of our senses, to discover as early abnormal, health deviations. Thus, introduction of new techniques, non-invasive, have made the human body to become today's increasingly transparent and accessible exploration morphological finest, with detection of the smallest changes in anatomy: computed tomography, ultrasound, scintigraphy, magnetic resonance etc..

Another interesting thing that I have found on the internet is the significance of our planets that we all know...

SUN: vital principle, health, social, authority, humor, father, if everything is favorable to improve birth horoscope.

Month: sensitivity, responsiveness, imagination, reverie, the female principle, the crowd, cash money, popularity, secret, mom, month = strong adventure.

Neptune: mediumistice spirit of prophecy, mysticism, hallucination, illusion, obsessional, Neptune strongly indicates sublime creation in the highest degree.

URANUS: original in all aspects, inventive spirit, revolution, dear people, eccentricity, Uranus indicates a strong reformist spirit, resourceful, unselfish.

SATURN: drag, misery, social collapse, if badly aspect indicates an eternal misery.

JUPITER: balance, justice, order, high authority, wealth, health, if well aspect indicates a happy life.

Adonis: modest chance, money, love, beauty, indicates a providential opportunity.

MERCURY: writing, word, trade, smart living

Do not play with your health because you cannot buy it sometime with money. This is the most precious thing for us humans, so be careful with it.

The benefit of Chocolate

Sometimes we sign chocolate as the things that can bring romance. But actually chocolate can give you more benefits than maintain your relationship. what are they?

High in Antioxidants
Cocoa contains flavanols, a type of flavanoid that is only found in cocoa and chocolate. Flavanoids are naturally-occurring compounds that occur in plant foods that act as antioxidants and help counteract free radicals in the body.
Blood Pressure Benefits
Dark chocolate has been shown in studies to lower blood pressure in people with elevated blood pressure.
Lower LDL Cholesterol
Eating dark chocolate on a regular basis has been shown to reduce LDL cholesterol by as much as 10 percent.
Natural Anti-Depressant
Chocolate contains serotonin, a natural anti-depressant. Chocolate also stimulates endorphin production, which creates feelings of happiness and pleasure. In fact, one study found that melting chocolate in the mouth produced feelings of pleasure longer than passionate kissing. This may explain why many people naturally reach for chocolate when they're depressed.
Cancer Fighter
Several studies have found chocolate to be one of the best cancer-fighting foods along with foods like red wine, blueberries, garlic, and tea. Two ways that chocolate works as a cancer fighter is by inhibiting cell division and reducing inflammation, though research is ongoing and will probably find additional ways in which chocolate fights cancer.
Prevents Tooth Decay
Research has found that the theobromine in chocolate prevents tooth decay by eliminating streptococcus mutans, a bacteria found in the oral cavity that contributes to tooth decay.
Longer Life and Less Disease
One Dutch study followed 200 men over 20 years and found that those who consumed large amounts of chocolate, both milk chocolate and dark, lived longer and had lower overall disease rates than men who ate little or no chocolate.
A Harvard study on the Kuna tribe of Panama resulted in similar findings. The Kuna consumed large amounts of raw cacao every day and the study found them to have lower overall disease rates and longer life expectancy than neighboring tribes who did not consume as much raw cacao.
To further strengthen the case for dark chocolate as a life extender, the world's longest-lived person, Jeanne Louise Calment, lived to the age of 122 and many ascribed her longevity in part to her consumption of 2.5 pounds of dark chocolate a week.
High in MagnesiumCacao is higher in magnesium than any other plant. Magnesium is an important mineral that helps in the regulation of the digestive, neurological, and cardiovascular systems. Since many people are magnesium deficient, adding magnesium-rich dark chocolate to the diet can improve overall health.
Artery Cleanup
Studies have shown that the antioxidants in cacao work like brooms in sweeping plaque out of the arteries.
Brain Health
Many studies have shown that dark chocolate is good for the brain. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that it can protect the brain after a stroke by shielding the nerve cells from further damage. Dark chocolate has also been found to improve memory. Researchers at California's Salk Institute found that a chemical in chocolate called epicatechin improved the memory of mice.
So, this Halloween, while everyone else is gorging on unhealthy candy, grab yourself a bar of dark chocolate or, even better, some raw cacao, and give your body and brain a boost. If you make it a regular habit, you might just extend your life and be able to enjoy that longer life with less disease than your non-chocolate-eating peers.

How to Reduce Cancer Risk

You've probably heard conflicting reports about cancer prevention. Sometimes the specific cancer-prevention tip recommended in one study or news report is advised against in another. If you're concerned about cancer prevention, take comfort in the fact that small changes in your daily life can make a big difference. Consider seven real-life cancer prevention tips.
1. Don't use tobacco

Using any type of tobacco puts you on a collision course with cancer. Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer — including cancer of the lung, bladder, cervix and kidney — and chewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don't use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke may increase your risk of lung cancer.

Avoiding tobacco — or deciding to stop using it — is one of the most important health decisions you can make. It's also an important part of cancer prevention. If you need help quitting tobacco, ask your doctor about stop-smoking products and other strategies for quitting.
2. Eat a healthy diet

Although making healthy selections at the grocery store and at mealtime can't guarantee cancer prevention, it may help reduce your risk. Consider these guidelines:
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Base your diet on fruits, vegetables and other foods from plant sources — such as whole grains and beans.
Limit fat. Eat lighter and leaner by choosing fewer high-fat foods, particularly those from animal sources. High-fat diets tend to be higher in calories and may increase the risk of overweight or obesity — which can, in turn, increase cancer risk.
If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. The risk of various types of cancer — including cancer of the breast, colon, lung, kidney and liver — increases with the amount of alcohol you drink and the length of time you've been drinking regularly.
3. Maintain a healthy weight and include physical activity in your daily routine

Maintaining a healthy weight may lower the risk of various types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, prostate, lung, colon and kidney. Physical activity counts, too. In addition to helping you control your weight, physical activity on its own may lower the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer.

As a general goal, include at least 30 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine — and if you can do more, even better. Try a fitness class, rediscover a favorite sport or meet a friend for daily brisk walks.

Youngest Bride in The World : Marriage of the Young Girls

Wide-eyed and haunted, the heartbreaking expressions on these young girls' faces hint at an innocence cruelly snatched away.
They should be playing, learning and enjoying their childhood. But instead these youngsters, some as young as five, are being married off in secret weddings. It is estimated that every year this happens to ten to 12 million girls in the developing world.
In India, the girls will typically be attached to boys four or five years older, an investigation in the June issue of National Geographic magazine has found. But in Yemen, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and other countries with even higher rates of marriage at an early age, the husbands may be young men, middle-aged widowers or even abductors who rape first and claim their victims as wives afterwards.

Child brides in Hajjah
'Whenever I saw him, I hid. I hated to see him': Tahani (in pink) was just six years old when she she married Majed, 25 (standing next to her). The young wife posed for this portrait with former classmate Ghada, also a child bride, outside their mountain home in Hajjah, Yemen
Some of these marriages are business transactions or to resolve a family feud.

Forced early marriage thrives in many regions, often in defiance of national laws. Whole communities often prescribe to the notion that it is as an appropriate way for a young woman to grow up when the alternative is the risk she loses her virginity to someone before she marries.
Wedding ceremonies are often held in the middle of the night, with the whole village keeping the secret for fear there might be a police raid.
In a project for National Geographic magazine, journalist Cynthia Gorney and photographer Stephanie Sinclair travelled to Yemen and Rajasthan in India to investigate the extent of this shocking practice.
In India girls may not legally marry before the age of 18 - but ceremonies involving girls in their teens may be overlooked. The younger daughters, some aged five, tend to be added on discreetly, their names kept off the invitations.
In one case in Rajasthan where her teenage sisters were also being married, a five-year-old bride named Rajani fell asleep before her wedding ceremony began.
child marriage in India
Well past bedtime: Child marriage might be illegal in India, but this doesn't stop ceremonies taking place in the small hours of the morning - it becomes a secret the whole village keeps, explained one farmer. Here, five-year-old Rajani is roused from her sleep long after midnight and carried to her wedding by her uncle

So young: Barely looking at each other, Rajani and her boy groom are married in front of the sacred fire. According to tradition, the young bride is expected to live at home until puberty, before she is transferred to her husband

An uncle lifted her from her cot and carried her in the moonlight toward the Hindu priest and future husband - a ten-year-old boy. Although child brides tend to remain with their families until they are older, this is not always the case.
Three years ago, the case of Nujood Ali came to worldwide attention. The ten-year-old Yemeni girl managed to escape her home and made her way to a courthouse to request a divorce from the man in his 30s her father had forced her to marry and who beat her.
She became the poster girl for children in her position around the world and a recent book, translated into 30 languages - I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced. She is now back with her family and has returned to school.
Not all girls have such a lucky escape. Few who are married off as children have any chance of an education but there are far worse consequences.
Many are raped and have a low life expectancy due to the number of children they carry at such a young age.
Girls suffer physical abuse and are too frightened to escape because they are threatened with death.
In another case in Yemen, it was discovered that a ten-year-old girl Ayesha had been married off to a 50-year-old man.
The journalists were told by her sister Fatima that 'little Ayesha screamed when she saw the man she was to marry'.
Wailing in protest: Surita, 16, cries as she leaves her family home, shielded by a traditional wedding umbrella and carried in a cart to her new husband's village. Early marriage is the norm in her small village in Nepal

Someone alerted the police, but Ayesha's father ordered her to put on high heels to look taller and a veil to hide her face.
He warned that if he was sent to jail, he would kill Ayesha when he got out. The police left without troubling anyone and Ayesha now lives in a village two hours away with her husband.
'She has a mobile phone,' Fatima said. 'Every day, she calls me and cries.'
The medical consequences are also extremely serious and in some cases fatal.
One doctor based in the Yemeni capital Sanaa listed some of the medical consequences of forcing girls into sex and childbirth before they are physically mature - ripped vaginal walls and internal ruptures called fistulas which can lead to life-long incontinence.
Girls are often too young to understand the concept of reproduction. The doctor said: 'The nurses start by asking, "Do you know what's happening?" "Do you understand that this is a baby that has been growing inside of you?''
Few are equipped with the information of how to care for themselves or their babies after childbirth leading to high infant mortality rates.
The people who work full-time trying to prevent these illegal marriages, and to improve women's lives, know that it is a far from simple plan of rescuing girls.
Molly Melching, the founder of a Senegal-based organisation Tostan, told National Geographic: 'If we separate a girl and isolate her from her community, what will her life be like?
'You don't want to encourage girls to run away. The way you change social norms is not by fighting them or humiliating people and saying they're backward. We've seen that an entire community can choose very quickly to change. It's inspiring.'

The Benefit of Drinking Tea

Drinking tea is one of the habit in human being. Most of the nation in the world using drinking tea as a culture such as in England, China, Japan and Korea. Drinking tea party is one of the custom to maintain the relationship and to held some formal meeting in one tribe. But besides as the culture and habit to enjoy it, drinking tea has a special benefit especially for your health . There are some benefits that you can get from drinking tea.
1. Tea contains antioxidants. Like the Rust-Oleum paint that keeps your outdoor furniture from rusting, tea's antioxidants protect your body from the ravages of aging and the effects of pollution.
2. Tea has less caffeine than coffee. Coffee usually has two to three times the caffeine of tea (unless you're a fan of Morning Thunder, which combines caffeine with mate, an herb that acts like caffeine in our body). An eight-ounce cup of coffee contains around 135 mg caffeine; tea contains only 30 to 40 mg per cup. If drinking coffee gives you the jitters, causes indigestion or headaches or interferes with sleep --switch to tea.
3. Tea may reduce your risk of heart attack and stroke. Unwanted blood clots formed from cholesterol and blood platelets cause heart attack and stroke. Drinking tea may help keep your arteries smooth and clog-free, the same way a drain keeps your bathroom pipes clear. A 5.6-year study from the Netherlands found a 70 percent lower risk of fatal heart attack in people who drank at least two to three cups of black tea daily compared to non-tea drinkers.
4. Tea protects your bones. It's not just the milk added to tea that builds strong bones. One study that compared tea drinkers with non-drinkers, found that people who drank tea for 10 or more years had the strongest bones, even after adjusting for age, body weight, exercise, smoking and other risk factors. The authors suggest that this may be the work of tea's many beneficial phytochemicals.
5. Tea gives you a sweet smile. One look at the grimy grin of Austin Powers and you may not think drinking tea is good for your teeth, but think again. It's the sugar added to it that's likely to blame for England's bad dental record. Tea itself actually contains fluoride and tannins that may keep plaque at bay. So add unsweetened tea drinking to your daily dental routine of brushing and flossing for healthier teeth and gums.
6. Tea bolsters your immune defenses. Drinking tea may help your body's immune system fight off infection. When 21 volunteers drank either five cups of tea or coffee each day for four weeks, researchers saw higher immune system activity in the blood of the tea drinkers.
7. Tea protects against cancer. Thank the polyphenols, the antioxidants found in tea, once again for their cancer-fighting effects. While the overall research is inconclusive, there are enough studies that show the potential protective effects of drinking tea to make adding tea to your list of daily beverages.
8. Tea helps keep you hydrated. Caffeinated beverages, including tea, used to be on the list of beverages thatdidn't contribute to our daily fluid needs. Since caffeine is a diuretic and makes us pee more, the thought was that caffeinated beverages couldn't contribute to our overall fluid requirement. However, recent research has shown that the caffeine really doesn't matter -- tea and other caffeinated beverages definitely contribute to our fluid needs. The only time the caffeine becomes a problem as far as fluid is concerned is when you drink more than five or six cups of a caffeinated beverage at one time.
9. Tea is calorie-free. Tea doesn't have any calories, unless you add sweetener or milk. Consuming even 250 fewer calories per day can result in losing one pound per week. If you're looking for a satisfying, calorie-free beverage, tea is a top choice.
10. Tea increases your metabolism. Lots of people complain about a slow metabolic rate and their inability to lose weight. Green tea has been shown to actually increase metabolic rate so that you can burn 70 to 80 additional calories by drinking just five cups of green tea per day. Over a year's time you could lose eight pounds just by drinking green tea. Of course, taking a 15-minute walk every day will also burn calories.

The Best Surfing Place in The World

It wouldn’t be hard to give the definition of surfing if you were to consider the desire to be out in the water, the freedom to conquer a great force of nature that can push you where you have never been before. It’s a whole new world, it’s like a drug that you start taking. Addictive. But surfing without great waves is like hot beer (totally not cool), therefore we decided to see what are some of the best places for surfers. Here are our 10 picks.

1. Gold Coast, Australia

There’s no doubt that Australia has some of the best beaches and best waves, which are perfect ingredients for a surfer. The sixth most populous city in the country, Gold Coast City is located in the southeast corner of Queensland and is renowned for its sunny subtropical climate, popular surfing beaches and the canal systems. Though expensive, it’s a great tourist attraction.

It’s the 70km of beaches and four epic point breaks (The Spit, Main Beach, Narrowneck, Palm Beach and Mermaid beach) that made people call it, the surfers’ paradise. Other great places to check out are Snapper Rocks Superbank, Burleigh Heads, Kirra and South Stradbroke Island (Straddie).

2. Mentawai Islands, Indonesia

The Mentawai Islands are a wave-rich chain of about seventy islands and islets off the western coast of Sumatra in Indonesia, one of the most consistent surf destinations in the world. There are four main islands (Siberut, Sipora, North Pagi, and South Pagi) that block most swells from reaching the mainland on Sumatra, which became noted destinations for wave-hunters that are looking for some of the most perfect surfing experiences in the world. Access is by sea only with ferries and charter boats.

Go there from March to October, but keep in mind that the biggest swells are likely to occur in June – September. Waves are facing almost every direction mainly because the winds are variable, so it’s easy to find a break with offshore conditions. Top Mentawai waves include Bankvaults, Lance’s Left and Lance’s Right, Macaronis, and for the less experienced there is Gilligan’s. Most of the surfers spend at least $125 a day so you should expect to pay for such an experience.

3. Jeffreys Bay, South Africa

In the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, about an hour’s drive southwest of Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay is one of the most famous surfing destinations in the world. Especially great during the winter months of June, July, and August, surfers come here for a great ride on beaches like Super Tubes, Boneyards, Kitchen Windows, Magna Tubes, Point and Albatross.

Apart from being a popular surfing destination, Jeffreys Bay is also renowned for its blue flag beaches and for hosting the annual Billabong Pro WCT surfing event at Supertubes during July.

4. Fuerteventura, Spain

Part of the Canary Islands, and the second biggest of them all and located in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa, Fuerteventura is also known as the Mecca of surfers. Aligned with Florida and Mexico on the same latitude, the temperatures here rarely fall below 18 °C or rise above 24 °C. Surfers visiting the island should be extremely happy with the weather conditions, no matter what time of the year they do it. October to March should be top season for them.

The most popular waves are Rocky Point, Harbour Wall, Shooting Gallery, Generosa, Suicides, Mejillonas, Majanicho, El Hierro, The Bubble, German Rights, Cotillo and Esquinzo.

5. El Salvador

After being baptized by Spanish conquistadors as “Provincia De Nuestro Señor Jesucristo El Salvador Del Mundo”, it’s now known as the Republic of El Salvador. Bordering the Pacific Ocean between Guatemala and Honduras, the country is a natural tourist attraction that is gaining more and more popularity with surfers visiting places like El Zonte, Sunzal, and La Libertad. Why? Because they are not very crowded.

The main swell season, is from March to October and coincides with the rainy season. Experienced surfers should expect the south swells during this time, to get up to 10ft. Don’t forget to take your booties for getting in and out at the rocky points and try to discover more and more new spots in the area.

6. Costa Rica

In Central America, bordered by Nicaragua to the north, Panama to the east-southeast, the Pacific Ocean to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east, the Republic of Costa Rica is a legendary surfing location. Mostly ‘hardcore’ surfers come here mainly because of the consistent waves year round and also to the many great surf spots. Both coastlines produces great waves with the major swell season starting from April and ending in October.

This could be the trip of your life so better prepare yourself for the “country’s best waves” in Playa Naranjo and the quality right river mouth point break at Potrero Grande (Ollies Point). Too bad the road systems are not very good.

7. California, North America

If for some reason you want to surf in North America, the best choice is California. The happiest with what California has to offer, are the big wave hunters that go to places like the mountains of Maverick’s during the huge winter swells. If you just want to enjoy a good wave but you’re not into big waves then why not choose a spot between Santa Cruz and Half Moon Bay, it’s great. Some other great places include Steamer Lane, Malibu and Rincon so don’t miss them.

Keep in mind that the water is cold almost all year round (only hits 24 °C in July and August) and that the surfing spots are most likely going to be crowded with very good surfers.

8. Bali, Indonesia

There aren’t many people who haven’t heard of Bali by now. In the western most of the Lesser Sunda Islands, lying between Java to the west and Lombok to the east, the Island of Bali is “an enchanted land of aesthetes at peace with themselves and nature” (Colin McPhee). It’s Indonesia’s largest tourist destination.

However, little knew that it’s a great place for surfers, too. A few of the best spots include the area around Bukit Peninsular – directly south from Dempasar, Kuta (Beach), Dreamland, Uluwatu or Padang Padang. With the swells coming from the Southern Ocean, Bali sees consistent waves up to 12 ft high, from April to November. Main drawback is that it’s pretty crowded and you may get hassled (a lot).

9. Santa Catarina, Brazil

In southern Brazil, the island of Santa Catarina is colloquially referred to as ‘Florianopolis’ (the capital) and is one of the country’s most visited places because it has a great number of beach resorts. The island is generally considered to be blessed with the best Brazil has to offer to a surfer, including a great consistency and a huge variety of waves, such as Santinho and Mocambique.

Joaquina Beach is one of the best places for your surfing vacation, that won fame as of the 1970s, when surfers from around the world discovered its waves. Other world class surf spots in Floripa (from Florianopolis) are Praia Mole, Campeche and Lagoinha do Leste.

10. Samoa

The Independent State of Samoa is part of the Samoan Islands archipelago in the South Pacific Ocean just north east of Fiji. It’s one of the best surfing destinations offering a rich Polynesian culture, warm waters, a tropical island paradise, and most importantly consistent quality waves. One of the best things, is that the South Pacific ensures that there is plenty of swell from pretty much every direction, all year round. The best time to roll is from April to October, when waves are created by the big lows down near Antarctica.

Some of the renowned surf spots in Samoa, are the A’ufaga Village, Salani, Boulders, Coconuts (compared to Hollow Tree’s in the Mentawai Islands), Salamumu and Tiavea, Laulii, Falea’puna, Fagaloa Bay or Solosolo.

We’re pretty sure these are great places to be if you’re a wave hunter, so please stop by and let us know how your trip was, “Great” may not be enough.

Weight Loss Tips - Love Handle Workout

Love handles - the name sounds so affectionate but it is something that you have always wanted to get rid of. It is that flabby area on the lower side of your external oblique abdominal muscles that are formed when your body stores energy as fat. This area is often neglected in stomach and abs exercises, and as a result, this fat still stay even after long hours of what you thought are perfect love handle workouts. Here are some weight loss tips that will be of great help with your urge to achieve a good-looking body and losing them.

These workouts can be easy and this is because all you have to do is simply burn this spot in order to get rid of them, but you need first to raise your body's metabolism until it's enough for spot toning. That means you have to start with cardio exercise routines for you to be able to lose those stubborn love handles.

There are a good number cardio exercise routines that you can try and these ranges from gym machines to outdoor workouts. These include using a rowing machine or a treadmill and elliptical bikes. However, there are also simple routines that you can do at home, doing foggy jumps, squat thrust, or jumping jacks for example. With these routines you do not only have a love handle workout but you are also targeting endurance and boosting your fitness level. A solid foundation of 3-5 times a week of 30-60 minutes cardio exercises can be a good start.

Now you can do more exercises in order to burn more calories that will eventually lead to losing your love handles. It is actually a misconception that sit-ups, crunches, and twists are the perfect love handle workouts, although they are good abs exercises, since most of the time they burn an unimportant amount of calories but that doesn't mean that they are targeting your love handles. What then are better routines than these exercises all A regular small-distance walking and running will do better, and these exercises are not difficult to do since these can just be simply part of your daily routine. These are the most practical weight loss tips, and a sure and effective love handle workout.

In addition, you must lower your body fat percentage, and a calorie-restricted diet will be of great help as you go on with your love handle workout. A simple concept of less calorie intake and more exercises greatly helps you in your workout routine. That means hours of following serious routines of different love handle exercises will just go to waste if you go home to a bad diet. You have to maintain the combination of eating good food and regular exercise.

Do these exercise consistently in moderation (considering love handles are your only problem, not abs):

1. Side Bridge (Planks)

2. Twists (using broom or empty barbell)

3. Side Bends

4. Side Crunches

5. Side Jackknife

6. Ab Bicycles (Knee-to-elbow Crunches)

I can't post all the links here because this directory doesn't allow me to. For details on how to do them, just Google it up.
For starters, do side bridges for 1 minute each side, do the twists for 5 minutes and do everything 10 each side every other day consistently.

Most importantly than all those exercise, beginners MUST start with High-intensity Interval Training (HIIT) around 3 times per week. The function of this is to burn fat. You won't lose those love handles if you have high body fat percentage. Long cardio and slow brisk walking are not just boring (useful in some situation), but also useless if your target is love handle. Basically, HIIT is doing an intense and slow cardio back to back after a warm-up.

Example: let's say jogging (you can apply the same concept in frog jumps or other cardio mentioned before as well)

a. 4 minutes moderate jogging (warm-up)

b. 30 seconds sprinting

c. 30 seconds slow jogging

d. Repeat b and c 4-12 times (depend on your fitness level, beginners should start with 4)

e. 4 minutes moderate jogging (warm-down)

After you advanced, do a combination of HIIT, old school sprinting and brisk walking every week ( like on Monday, Wednesday, Friday). This is to beat plateau, where you won't make any progress no matter how hard you try.

You can substitute HIIT with sports that require you to move slowly and suddenly quickly like football, soccer, rugby, basketball and so on.

These weight loss tips are your guides to effectively achieve your goal of toning your body, but these suggested love handle workouts would only take effect when done together with proper discipline. In addition, care should also be taken especially when you do more strenuous abs-toning exercises, or better yet, do these routines with the supervision of a qualified fitness instructor.
